Big day at the feeder

Uhh, that means the birds had a big day, not me (no Blue Room today!). Herds of robins, starlings, and house finches, plus american goldfinches, pine siskins, dark-eyed juncos, nothern flickers, black capped chicadees, and a pair of downy woodpeckers. The flicker and a male house finch were the brightest-colored I can recall seeing No picture of the flicker, but the house finch is shown below.

I'll also toss in a robin eating a russian olive berry (emergency rations when worms are unavailable) and a pine siskin - no feeder in picture this time.

ERROR! ERROR! Blogger kaput - can't add pictures! Continually saving page! We'll see if this puppy publishes and maybe add pictures to album later. Wish me luck - I'm pushing the publish button. May the Force be with me!

The Blog is back - but not feeling too productive

Not a whole lot of wanderings to report for the last month. But gotta put something in before I forget my password. So I'll report a NEW BIRD at the feeder! Pretty exciting stuff, eh? We've been getting a small herd of pine siskins along with the usual freeloaders - they're pretty common (in higher elevation pine forests) and come down to lower elevations during the winter, but I've never seen (or, at least, identified) one before. Picture below. Also saw this year's first robin yesterday - he was shivering and wondering where his more-intelligent buddies were.
That's about it, except for the minor issue of Nancy's hip replacement - the operation went well, she's up and moving around, and she'll be coming home from the hospital tomorrow (Sunday 2/8)
